I feel like this belongs a little bit more in the discussion section, so I'm going to move it there.

Here are my tips:

1. When you're in a car, and passing a PokeStop, wait until it activates (it should turn into a circle with a pokeball in the middle). Spin the circle and then immediately press the X button. You'll still receive the rewards!

2. Choosing teams can be difficult, and if you haven't chosen a team yet, here are the benefits that come with each one: (you may pick a team once you reach level 5)

Team Instinct - THIS IS THE TEAM I PICKED I SUGGEST YOU DO SO AS WELL. Even though it's least popular team, it's still my favorite. The eggs you hatch will have a greater CP, and you will (possibly) have the chance to obtain rarer pokemon through the eggs you hatch as well.

Team Mystic - The most popular team. Referred to as team "mistake" by me and my Instinct friends, because it's the most mainstream team. The benefits you gain are through the evolution of your pokemon, gaining more CP than someone who evolves their pokemon who is not on team mistake Mystic.

Team Valor - This is the second most popular team... But literally owns ALL the gyms in my area. Pokemon you find in the wild will have a greater CP. That's it. I found out that they'refresh also stronger when you power them up.

3. It's good to check your Pokemon Go every once in a while, even if you're just sitting in your house. It's likely that a Pokemon will spawn if you leave it open for a few minutes, so it's easy to net in some free Pokemon while you can.

4. If you're lucky enough to live right next to a PokeStop, remember that they refresh every 5 minutes. Depending on your trainer level, you will reap greater rewards. So just remember to check once in a while to get dem free pokeballs.

5. If you live in a regular neighborhood like me, you're only going to find normal, bug, and flying type pokemon. Pokemon are found in habitats that correlate to their types. Water Pokemon are found near ponds/lakes, grass types near trees and foliage, etc. Plus, if you live in a busy area, the spawn rate for Pokemon is much higher!

6. Catch Duplicates. If you have 18 Drowzees like me, don't worry, you can still benefit off of them. Pick the one with the highest CP, and evolve it with the candies. Keep in mind you get 3 candies for each individual Pokemon you catch. Most need around 50 candies to evolve, but pokemon that are more common, like Pidgey, only need 12. And transferring pokemon to the super hip professor will net you in one candy of that pokemon. You can evolve Pidgeys like no tomorrow and get a crazy ton of exp off of it.

7. Use Incense when you're walking, not sitting at home. The incense rate is one pokemon per 5 minutes if you're stationary. However, when you're moving, the pokemon spawn rate is one every 200 meters. Since the average walking speed is 3.1miles/h, that's about 4989meters/h. And incense lasts for 30 minutes, and that's already waaaay more than the 6 Pokemon you can find while stationary.

8. If you haven't started the game yet, and want Pikachu as your starter, here's how to get one:
-The game first provides you with the gen1 trio of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
-Instead of fighting one, just keep walking.
-The game will teleport them so they will always be on your screen, but if you ignore them ~4 times, Pikachu will appear along beside them.
-Congrats, you've (hopefully) got a Pikachu!

9. If you haven't already, turn your Pokemon Go onto Battery Saver mode. Click the pokeball icon at the bottom, and then press Settings. Tick the circle that says "Battery Saver." When you walk around with the app open, it will fade down and still vibrate if you pass a Pokemon! Keep in mind that your phone needs to be upside down for it to fade out.

10. Master the curveball. When you're capturing a pokemon, spin the pokeball in your direction of choice (I choose to spin it clockwise). When you throw it, aim it in the OPPOSITE direction you were aiming at. For example, since I spin mine clockwise, I throw them a little bit left to the Pokemon. You get an extra 10 exp every time you capture one with this method, and even though it may seem small, it really adds up in the end.

11. If you can't do tip 10, remember that if you just throw the pokeball vertically, and you miss, you can pick up the pokeball to re-use it by simply tapping it.  doesnt work anymore

12. If you live in Canada like me, you might have a glitch most commonly known as the "three-step glitch," where all the Pokemon on your Nearby radar are all at three steps, the max distance indicator. I find it easier to simply not go out of my way to look for these pokemon, and just hope I run into them. However, if you see a rare Pokemon and just GOTTA catch it, there's still a way to tell which is closest or not. The top left Pokemon is closest. It always will be. The bottom right left is the furthest. Just read it left to right, like you're reading a regular novel. LOL NIANTIC JUST DECIDED TO REMOVE STEPS IN GENERAL

13. Prioritize your eggs. Eggs can be found at PokeStops, and there are 3 types. They come in 2km, 5km, and 10km. Those are the distances required to hatch them. The 2km eggs have the most common pokemon. 5km have the largest variety, having a mixture of half common, and half uncommon. 10km eggs is where it's at. They wield the rarest Pokemon, but take a lot of effort to hatch. Here is a chart of them all!

Those are all the tips I can think of off the top of my head, so I'll make sure to add some more later if I remember. I'd show you guys my Pokemon, but I don't want to take that many screenshots. I'm currently level 20 and on Team Instinct (the best team).

No phone :p can't play.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup; best prepared with tenderizing from the banhammer and cooked in the spawn lavajail.

Need admin help? PM me, and I'll get to you when I'm next available. I can fix forum and (most) in-game issues.

If I remember correctly, the re-use of Pokeballs is a myth. But other than that, spot on Yvonne.

I want to add that it is totally possible to take on a gym with a Cp 1000+ Pokemon with a team of only Cp 300 and Cp 400 Pokemon. All you need to do is know how to dodge attacks, and be prepared to use a few of your revives and potions.

I can tell you first hand that re-using pokeballs isn't a myth, because I've done it myself (:

At the initial encounter of a pokemon, you can see a small white number at the bottom of your screen. That's the number of pokeballs you have!! And when you toss a pokeball, you can see that the number goes down, but when you tap it it comes right back up :D

https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/4sk6nn/psa_you_can_reuse_pokeballs/

According to the people of reddit, re-using balls only works if a pokemon breaks free, and you can only use that pokeball once more. If that even is the case, as some are stating that you cannot reuse pokeballs at all.

EDIT: To add anecdotal evidence myself, I have tried and had no success picking up used pokeballs.

EDIT 2: I forgot how links work on the forums. It has been a while.

Ahh I wondered if there would be a thread for this or not. Good stuff. I love the game, though yesterday's update is stupid.
